Orca3D Powers Naval Research at 2025 RINA Warship Conference
We’re proud to share that Orca3D Marine CFD was recently featured in research presented at the RINA Warship 2025 Conference — an international gathering of leaders in naval ship design and marine innovation.
The paper, titled “On the Benefit of Adjustable Stern Energy Saving Devices for Fast Warships,” was led by Dr. Stefano Brizzolara (Virginia Tech) in collaboration with Fincantieri Marinette Marine. Using Orca3D’s simulation capabilities, the team explored how subtle changes to a ship’s stern can yield up to 6% reductions in drag and significant improvements in pitch and fuel efficiency.
The best part? These performance gains were discovered entirely through virtual towing tank simulations using Orca3D—saving time, money, and materials while driving innovation in naval design.
